| Me 'n my main squeeze |
Well, I'm back from New York ... almost in one piece, but still recovering from the bug that I picked up. I was flat out on Sunday, after the wedding. It was a good thing that the weather cooperated on Saturday for our ALL, outdoor event from morning till late at night....'cause Sunday was another story. While feverish and coughing non-stop on Sunday.... I
felt like the torrential downpour that was happening outside. The heavens were with us on Saturday, though, at least for the beautiful, 70 degree weather and sunshine when we most needed it. There always has to be a "wedding story" though, or it wouldn't be a "wedding", so I'll tell you mine.
It all started when I awoke at 5 in the morning, coughing, and I went in the kitchen to get a glass of water. There was a big pop and then darkness. No Power! My alarm was set to arise at 7 am, so I had another good 2 hours of snooze time before I had to get up, but I was afraid that my alarm wouldn't go off, as it was an electric alarm clock. So, I went back to bed, but didn't get back to sleep. I got up at 7 and the power was still off. I called my sister on the only phone that was corded and not plugged in. These days, if you don't have one of those, you might as well hang it up.... Oh, and in that little, remote town there IS NO cell service so forget about using my cell phone. My nephew answered and informed me that they had already called the power company but that they would respond quicker if more than one person called. (My mom and sister live on the same street about 4 houses apart, so naturally, the power would be out on the whole block).
Seems that someone hit a pole and the transformer was out. They were waiting for a crew to arrive to fix it... meanwhile, we had a wedding to prepare for. Since most of my family had come in from out of town and were camping nearby, they were planning on using our showers before the wedding too. It was pretty dark to put make up on to get ready and since I didn't have use of a blow dryer or curling iron I opted NOT to wash and style my hair. It was what it was. Luckily, with my hair, it pretty much looks the same no matter what I do to it... My sister, on the other hand, being the bride.... was the center of attention and I was trying to figure out how we were all going to get ready in time. She didn't know WHY she opted for an eleven o'clock in the morning wedding... but that's the time the clock was ticking toward. Deal with it!

I don't know HOW we did it, but we arrived on time and "none worse for wear". The groom was awaiting for his beautiful bride and the scene was picturesque at the banks of the Hudson river on a rolling, green hill that spilled down to a meadow of loved ones. Everyone's attention was on the bride and her son, Jason, as he escorted her down to the altar to wed her handsome "King". Dressed in a teal dress with Swarovski crystals in her hair, a center of creamy white roses surrounded by baby fuschia ones in her bouquet, the bride's blue eyes danced and sparkled as she met his with a smile. It was going smoothly with beautiful vows being spoken to each other and THEN came the time for the rings... When Cindy offered her groom his ring there was a glitch.... too much salt the night before.... some water retention of some sort... but the ring wouldn't slide on... She pushed and struggled to finally put some spit on the knuckle to get it to go all the way on (It's not coming off--ever!). It made for quite a comical scene and people burst into laughter from some of the faces that the bride made....

I will share them here....

Overall, the whole day was perfect. Not one thing brought us down... learning to roll with the punches and deal with what comes really helps. Now, I have a wonderful new family and a brother-in-law whom I adore. Gerard is such a wonderful man... patient and loving, caring and strong. He is fun-loving and sensitive while he gives off that "manly" side as well. I think he is a perfect fit for my strong-willed sister. They both are level-headed and bring out the others' good characteristics and traits. I am so happy for them both and wish them only the best the future has to offer... as they deserve it. I can't wait to spend more time getting to know his sisters, mom and dad as they seemed as wonderful as he is. Till next time.... ciao!
Love your blog Trish. Thanks for posting this.
