It’s like visiting a friend’s house for a quick meal ’round the breakfast table. It’s personal—you’re in their space, and the environment is uniquely suited for idea exchange and uninterrupted conversation. In many ways, we should be treating our blogs like our breakfast tables. Be welcoming & gracious when you host, and kind & respectful when visiting.” – Trent Walton

An unmade bed...

Good Morning and Happy New Year!  Each morning, since my mother left our house after a five week stay, I pass by the guest suite and glance into the bedroom. I see an unkempt bed...one that isn't made and looks like someone is still utilizing that space.  It makes me feel good... as if when I go down the stairs to the kitchen to get my morning brew that she will be there at the breakfast table or at the breakfast bar--on the laptop--in her bathrobe ....just there.  It's a nice feeling!  I suppose I should tidy up that room and put the sheets in the laundry... but "all in due time".  We had such a nice visit with her while she came over the holidays.  It was so sweet of her to take care of our pooches while we took a cruise with some friends out of Galveston to the "Islands".  Every worry in the world left my brain knowing that grandma was here with her "grand-dogters".  They miss her, as do we!

While she was here, we didn't do a whole lot as we were so nice to bring her home a cold/virus that left us all grounded for a week or so ... not feeling like going out or doing much.  When we did have some energy and stamina, though, we saw a couple of movies (War Horse and Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol), played some Trumpet (a board/card game that was rated #1 some years ago), went shopping, she went contra dancing while Kevin played mandolin in the band that accompanied the dancers... and hung out drinking Cappuccino from my new machine Santa brought me. It was precisely what we needed to chill for the holidays.  Some of the time, it was in the high 70's, but for the most part, it was a bit dismal for a walk in the park and a bit cold.  As she did last year, she got a membership for the month at the local Fitness 19 gym which helped her maintain her svelte physique she has been donning since she has become super active with her new beau.  There's not much time she is sitting still when she is with him and at home, so she figured she had better keep active so she could keep up with him upon her return.  We learned a lot about Chuck and found out that my mom is quite smitten with this man.  I can't wait to meet him... perhaps in the late Spring.. early Summer!?

Kevin and mom always get along so well and while she was here they had a good time riding bikes, geo-caching (they found five) and going to an electronics and appliance Super Store called Fry's.  I like to go there when there is a reason... like to check out Cappuccino machines and such, but not just to wander and find things... that is what they like and can do it for hours. UGH!  Anyway... They had a good time and it was good bonding time for them.

Next year, as Kevin had a great time doing it for the first annual THIS year... Kev wants us three to do the Pflugerville Pfreeze Pflop in the pool... which, mind you was only 48 degrees this year and they almost had to break the ice on the pool before they let the first person go down the slide to take the plunge! LOL!   Of course, my honey had to get in on it and got a cool T shirt to prove it.  I don't think I would have believed him if he didn't come home with something to show for it since it was about 48 degrees OUTSIDE with a headwind of about 20 mph... To top it off, he was out RUNNING!! He just happened to run by the pool and checked out all the activity going on.  After he took the plunge, he went another 10 miles and was nearly dry, but a frozen icicle, by the time he returned home.  Crazy guy!  He had to get out his "chilled dos XX cerveza" to show our Brother in law that he's all that and then some, too! "ON ON !"   (Notice the cap is still on the bottle!) Shhhh!

I haven't posted anything about our cruise yet, but all in due time. I will probably get to that shortly, but I wanted to say that we had a fantastic time with our friends, grandma-and-grandpa-to-be, Chris and Monica from Houston!  We stayed with them the night before the ship left and then just had a short jaunt from Houston to Galveston the day of which made for a very "light" travel day.  We usually have at least a plane flight and are very tired by the time we arrive on the ship!  This is the first time we have sailed in the winter and we found it to be a little cooler than we like for a Carribean CRUISE! I think others had the same viewpoint 'cause there weren't as many people partying or just chillaxing 'round the pool as usual!  They had a great water park on the top of the ship, though, and of course it was enticing us all to try it out!  They also had a sky-rope-course which was different than any other ship we've sailed on.  It gave us something to do on the "days at sea" of which we had three!   We spent a great deal of time telling stories and shootin' the bull in the "Red Frog Pub".  Talk about bonding!
With our friend, Carole, whom we met
the last night of the cruis

So, that in a nutshell.. and finally coming up from air after a very rough ending to a very good year...
Things are good here!  Ready for another incredible year!  Cheers!
