Hope you have fun looking at my creations and other things I love in life.... calligraphy is my passion, but so is my family... consisting of "the love of my life", my hubby, and my three miniature long haired dachshunds. You'll see lots of them here. Loved this quote: There’s something sacred about reading a blog post on someone else’s site. It’s like visiting a friend’s house for a quick meal ’round the breakfast table. It’s personal—you’re in their space, and the environment is uniquely suited for idea exchange and uninterrupted conversation. In many ways, we should be treating our blogs like our breakfast tables. Be welcoming & gracious when you host, and kind & respectful when visiting.” – Trent Walton

Busy as a bee!

What does SUMMER mean to you!?  It means a lot of different things to me, but one thing for sure, if you live in Texas... it's HOT!  As if there is nothing else to talk about, that is one thing that everyone can find in common.  I feel for all the "pets" that are treated as so.  I wish people would treat them as part of the family and evaluate whether they would leave a "family member" out in the hot sun for the entire day... perhaps with no water 'cause it was spilled right after the first hour due to jumping around with apprehension and excitement 'cause their owner was leaving them for the day.... I wish they had a voice... I wish they could say, "I love you so much... so unconditionally, that the only thing I NEED is your love and nourishment!"   When they are taken for granted and treated like a "PET" and something that doesn't really matter all that much it just breaks my heart....

I will get off my soapbox, now.....

I remember summers in my childhood where the days would last so long that I thought they would NEVER end. I mean, we would stay outside and play till it was dusk and we could barely see each other... so pumped up that even thoughts of going in and getting ready for bed were beyond us.

The yummy celebrations always seemed to include watermelon and strawberries... such fun, delicious summertime treats.  I love this photo of a cake that I could dive into like a cool, oasis of YUM!

Another thing that used to be so deeply rooted into my world while growing up were Bluegrass Festivals.  I found so much freedom at them and experiences that I would otherwise not have had if it had not been for my aunt and uncle who so indelibly loved the music as much as I do today!  KK and Dan would lug FOUR kids every summer from festival to festival, camping and jamming and watching the incredible stage shows back in the 70s.  Although it was a time of post 60's and that "free love", the drug scene etc, these festivals were not like that in any way.. at least from the eyes of a child.  We would watch bands such as the Bluegrass Cardinals, The Country Store, The Seldom Scene... with that "Duffley Guy" , Buck White and the Down Home folks and so many more.... I remember sitting at the base of many stages making oogly eyes at some of the "hunks" playing that twangy, round, loud and noisy  thing.  It was in my blood to finally marry the man of my dreams.... a BANJO player.  You won't find "just any girl" who wouldl not only tolerate, but love the sound of that instrument emanating from her home.  It's a happy sound. It's an acquired taste and I love it!   This particular festival... pictured, was the "Berkshire Mountain Bluegrass Festival" which was later renamed "Winterhawk" and then called "Grey Fox", which is what it is called today!  For some reason, Winterhawk has stuck in my head and that is what I still refer to it as.  I had some great experiences there and met some incredible people who shaped me into what I am today!  That "hill" on the Rothvoss Farm in the Berkshires of NY and MA holds a special place in my heart and mind forever.  Although it's too hot to go to many festivals in Texas during the summer, I sometimes just GO THERE in my mind to get away from it all.  I get so nostalgic with some of the songs I hear being played either at a jam or coming through the speakers of my car or at home.  I always want to pick up the phone and call KK to tell her that I'm listening to that Duffley guy and to thank her for giving me so many fun times and endless memories. I know she is jamming away, though, up above with that Father Bill and the rest of the boyz... with Uncle Dan at her side. I wouldn't want to bother her....
